I would really like to go on this gothic cruise but as some who is over 21 but who doesn't drink, I can't justify spending $350-$450 dollars on something I'm not going to use. Is there any way that I can pay the under 21 fee and just get all the free water ?

Unfortunately not.  I think it's because we're getting a great group rate for everything else, but they can't piecemeal it.

There's a small contingent of us that rebelled when the open bar card went into effect.  We certainly don't drink $700 worth of anything, and when I went by myself in '07 my total bill for the week was $120.  Of course Zaida had scored us 2 or 3 open bar slots, so that helped.

I stopped thinking about the cost of drinks and just factoring in the cost as a cost of the cruise/concerts.

Skully is quite correct.    Carnival gives us a group rate and packages this together.   Our group has group discounts on each peice of the package.  So everyone gets it.

However, here is something you might wish to consider.  Carnival supplies free coffee, tea, lemonade and non-bottled water at their beverage stations. (Lemonade is switched for orange juice in the morning, and small milk cartons are on the buffet).  If you want anything else, you have to pay for it.  The Open bar card doesnt just include alcohol.  It includes almost anything you order from the bar.    Soft drinks, energy drinks, bar juices, bottled water and alcohol free drinks.  It also includes drink gratuities.  Drink gratuities are normaly charged for anything ordered from the bar.

I'm a non-drinker also, and while I don't drink up anywhere near $300 worth of bottled water, it is still worth it for the whole Goth cruise experience (FYI, this will be my 4th year!)

but there'll surely be other things to drink besides just alcohol and water. What about juices, energy drinks, sodas, etc... I plan on having some alcohol, indeed, but I plan on also having water ( hydration) and other non-alc stuff, too.

Undecided They should have drinker / non-drinker pricing not 21+ pricing...the difference in pricing is the age because they will not be ordering alchoholic drinks.... now I suppose some people might try and pull on over on them and pay less and still drink.... maybe that could become a problem... but as my husband doesn't drink anything besides absinthe (bleh...), and this IS a Goth cruise.... it better be offered or this is a jip to us! Well... Red Bulls he can drink all day I suppose...

The open bar card is not just for alcohol it's also for juices sodas water coffee and such. I have a hard time with how much it costs but I like not having to worry about how much we can spend on drinks when it's already paid for. I don't drink as well so it's kinda irritating for that reason. But believe me you will enjoy not having to allot a certain amount of cash for drinks on board. It makes the cruise more enjoyable especially if all (or most) of your money went to paying for the cruise.
